A 21-year-old BTech student at IIT-Delhi committed suicide inside his hostel Friday evening.
DCP (Southwest) Manoj C said around 6 pm, they received a PCR call regarding a suicide by a student at Vidyanchal Hostel.
“On verification of facts, it was revealed that a boy, Anil Kumar, who was pursuing BTech in Mathematics and Computing (session 2019-2023) committed suicide by hanging,” said the DCP.
Police added that as he had not cleared a few subjects, he was residing in the hostel on a six-month extension.

“As per rules, his hostel was to be vacated in June but he could not qualify for some subjects and was given an extension for six months to clear them,” said police.
The door was closed from the inside and the fire department had to break it down.
“The Dean of students/CMO IIT, Chief Security Officer, crime team, forensic teams were also present at the time. No foul play has been observed… inquest proceedings have been initiated,” said the DCP.
