Following an incident where a man allegedly sexually assaulted a minor girl on the Delhi Metro, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) started a 10-day safety drive on Friday to prevent male passengers from entering the coach reserved for women.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly masturbating and ejaculating on a minor girl in the metro.

The DMRC has decided to hold the safety drive to prevent future such incidents, officials said. The drive will be held until September 10 from 6 pm to 10 pm.

The DMRC, CISF and Delhi Police are jointly conducting the drive.

Subsequently, increased surprise checks will be performed on lines at random intervals. The drive may be further extended beyond the first 10 days, based on outcomes. Necessary punitive actions will be taken against offenders as per existing provisions, said officials.
