After a delay of around two-and-half years, Rajkot is set to get a second bus station of the Gujarat State Transport Corporation (GSRTC), which will handle traffic going to the districts east of Rajkot.
Minister of State for Home, Industries, Transport, Youth and Sports, Harsh Sanghvi, is scheduled to inaugurate the satellite bus station of GRSRTC constructed near Amul Circle on Bhavnagar Road on Saturday.
The satellite bus station, a first-of-its-kind in 12 districts of Saurashtra-Kutch regions, has 10 platforms, three passenger alighting platforms, a general waiting area and a women-only waiting area besides segregated toilet blocks for men and women and one toilet for divyangs. It has come up on a 19,248 sq m.
The bus station will handle to and from traffic from districts like Amreli, Bhavnagar and Botad as well as eastern part of Rajkot rural.

Then Rajkot mayor Bina Acharya had laid the foundation stone of this bus station on March 8, 2020 with the GSRTC then saying that the new facility will become operational within a year.
Asked about the delay, J B Karotra, divisional controller (DC) of Rajkot division of GSRTC, said: “There was a delay of around one-and-a-half years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There is no other delay and the agency has remained the same. There is no change in design of the project.”
The satellite bus station will supplement GSRTC Busport located on Dhebar Road, which handles average 1,100 arrivals and departures.
