EIGHT YEARS after artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambhani were found murdered, a sessions court has reserved the judgment in the case. Four men including Hema’s estranged husband artist Chintan Upadhyay are facing trial on charges including murder. The judgment is likely to be delivered on September 15.
On Friday, after special public prosecutor Vaibhav Bagade completed final arguments, the court adjourned the matter for judgment. The court said that because of the volume of evidence in the case, the judgment is likely to take another 10-15 days to be dictated and pronounced.
On December 12, 2015, two boxes were found floating in a drain in Kandivali, which were later identified to be those of Hema and her lawyer, Bhambhani. The police subsequently arrested Upadhyay claiming that the murders were carried out at his behest.
Other accused facing trial include Vijay Rajbhar, Pradeep Rajbhar and Shivkumar Rajbhar, who continue to remain in jail since 2016.
The main accused, Vidyadhar Rajbhar, continues to be absconding. The prosecution examined 56 witnesses. Among the evidence put forth by the prosecution was CCTV footage, items seized from Upadhyay including his diaries and paintings.
