A 47-year-old man was arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Friday morning over alleged illegal possession of marijuana at his residence in the Juhapura area of the city.
Police recovered 3.345 kg of marijuana, worth Rs 33,450, according to an official statement.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Jahangir Mohammad Islam (47), a resident of Juhapura, Vejalpur. He works as a labourer.

Islam has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act sections 8 (C) (cultivating opium poppy or any cannabis plant), 20 (B) (produces, manufactures, possesses, sells, purchases, transports, imports inter-State, exports inter-State or uses cannabis) and 29 (criminal conspiracy).
According to the statement, the accused bought the ganja from his friend Mustakim, who is also a resident of Juhapura and the police are currently trying to locate that person.
“The accused was presented today in the magistrate court and he has been sent to a day’s police remand,” said B.S Suthar, police inspector, Ahmedabad City, Crime Branch.
