Mahendragiri unique instrument: Navy Chief | India News

The Navy continues to remain ‘mission deployed’ across vast swaths of the oceans to secure India’s legitimate national interests and the deployed assets retain the potential and flexibility to easily transform from their military posture to undertake benign, diplomatic or constabulary roles, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said Friday.

Admiral Kumar was speaking at the launch of Mahendragiri—the seventh stealth frigate of Project 17A being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL). The frigate — launched at shipyard by Sudesh Dhankhar, wife Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, comes in two weeks of launch of Vindhyagiri which is the sixth ship of the Project 17A frigates at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited, Kolkata.

Admiral Kumar said Mahendragiri will prove to be a valuable addition to India’s growing fleet.

VP Dhankhar said that the launch of Mahendragiri is a significant milestone in India’s maritime history and appreciated the achievements of the Warship Design Bureau and other naval teams.
