The marriages between Parsis in India are governed by Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1965. A marriage under Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1965 is void if:
- The contracting parties are within prohibited relationship of (i) Consanguinity or (ii) affinity. This condition is given under Section 3 (1) (a) of Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1965.
- Necessary formalities of marriage have not been performed.This condition is given under Section 3(1) (b) of Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1965.
- Male has not completed the age of 21 years and female has not completed the age of 18 years. This condition is given under Section 3(1) (c) of Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1965.
- Either party to the marriage was impotent. This condition is given under Section 30 of Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1965.[1]
The procedure is quite simple as compared to the marriage procedures under other religions such as Christianity etc., or in case of inter-religion marriages under Special Marriage Act, 1954.
Procedure for marriage under Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1965–
- Solemnization through Ashirvad– According toSection 3(2) of Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1965,every marriage has to be solemnized in accordance with the cultural ceremony of “Aashirvad” by a priest and two other Parsi witnesses and in case, it is solemnized through any other ceremony, it will not be valid.
- Certificate and registry of marriage– According to Section 6(1) of Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1965, every marriage certificate has to be signed by the priest, contracting parties and at least two witnesses. The priest should send that marriage certificate along with the two rupees which to be paid by the husband, to the Registrar of the place where such solemnization takes place, who shall enter such certificate into the register kept by him for that purpose.

For Divorcee / Widow / Widower For Parsi Marriage Registration in Mumbai:
- If applicant is divorcee : Judgement and Court Decree copy
- If applicant is widow or widower : Death Certificate of Spouse

Note:
- To Register the Marriage you require three witnesses, the witnesses are need to submit certain documents as proofs.
- Witness should be an adult, more than 21 years of age, can be Parents, Relatives & Friends
