The inauguration of the two new stretches of the Pune Metro — from Pimpri Chinchwad to Civil Court and from Vanaz to Ruby Hall Clinic — has boosted the ridership as over 20 lakh commuters have used the service within the city, helping the Metro authority to net a revenue of Rs 3 crore in August alone.
“The Pune Metro has helped improve the public transport service in the city. The PMPML and Pune Metro has also made feeder service available for the convenience of citizens,” said Shravan Hardikar, managing director of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro), the governing body of the Pune Metro rail.
According to the Maha-Metro, a total of 20.40 lakh commuters used the service in August and an average 65,000 commuters used the service per day. The maximum ridership was 1.69 lakh on August 15. This has led to a revenue collection of Rs 3.07 crore per month, which is an average of Rs 9.78 lakh per day. In August, the maximum number of 2 lakh commuters were at the station of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, followed by Vanaz station which recorded a footfall of 1.53 lakh. It was also noticed that the maximum number of commuters bought ticket through electronic payment. The Pune Metro rail has also launched ‘Ek Pune card’ for daily commuters to avoid the hassle of buying tickets every time they commute.
