This engineering lecturer wears many hats | Ahmedabad News

Zankhana Dilipbhai Mehta, a lecturer in the Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Government Polytechnic College in Ahmedabad, is among the 13 teachers from the country working in higher education to be awarded the National Award to Teachers 2023.

Zankhana (38) has been teaching Instrumentation and Control Engineering and Automation and Robotics Engineering since 2015. She has been instrumental in the implementation of various projects by the state government. She was felicitated with ‘The SSIP Prashansa Award 2020 for handholding innovation and start-up activities for diploma students.

Apart from routine academics, Mehta, who taught at the Vishwakarma Government Engineering College in Ahmedabad between 2008 and 2015, has been motivating students to pursue entrepreneurial journeys by working on innovative products and technologies.

Mehta, who is also a psychological counsellor for students, is popular for being available to them even after office hours as a sports coach for the girl’s team in her department too. She is also a member board of studies for new courses like Automation and Robotic Engineering at Gujarat Technological University (GTU), the course that started in 2022.
