As of now, six express trains, including CSMT-Nagpur Duronto Express, CSMT-Gondia Vidarbha Express and CSTM-Howrah Gitanjali Express, in both up and down directions have successfully undergone speed tests on the upgraded stretch. Once these express trains are permitted to operate at 130 kmph on this section, it is expected to save at least 25-30 minutes’ journey time.
Travelling on the 526-km Igatpuri-Bhusawal-Badnera section at the previous speed limit of 110 kmph took 10 hours. With the new speed limit of 130 kmph, the time will be reduced by 30 minutes.
A total of 67 trains will run at 130 kmph in this section. Speed tests for remaining trains will be conducted gradually. The track improvement is especially significant as it will reduce travel time for trains heading towards Nashik and the Kolkata route. The Pune-Daund section of CR has already allowed express trains to run at 130 kmph.
