The unveiling of the INDIA alliance’s logo, which was scheduled to take place on Friday morning during its meeting in Mumbai, has been deferred.
Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray said that the logo’s unveiling has been deferred after some of the leaders of the alliance suggested that suggestions for the design of the logo should be invited from the people. “Two-three designs of the logo were prepared. But during the informal meeting on Thursday, some leaders suggested that the design should come from the public and hence we will invite suggestions from the people in a specific time-frame and then will decide on it,” Uddhav said.
A source, however, said that the logo’s unveiling was deferred after some of the leaders of the alliance raised questions over the need of having a logo for the alliance. According to sources, several heads of the parties raised questions over the need of having a logo at a time when every party has their own poll symbol. The contention of a few was also that the logo of the alliance may create confusion in the minds of people and hence sticking to the party’s poll symbol would be better and hence the unveiling was deferred.

“A decision on whether to have a logo or not will be taken later now. The logo was finalised but not released owing to the concerns raised by some leaders,” a source said.
Earlier in the day, Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut had said that the unveiling or having the logo of the alliance has not been cancelled but deferred owing to the heavy agenda and time constraints and that the unveiling of the logo may take place in a couple of days in Delhi. “It’s not that the unveiling of the logo is cancelled. But the agenda is very heavy… Logo is an important aspect of the alliance. The unveiling can take place even tomorrow or within two or three days in Delhi,” Raut said on Friday.
Raut said that there will be a discussion on the logo and it can be unveiled in a day or two in New Delhi.
