Vadodara Traffic Police sounds alert on ‘fake’ e-memo links for fines | Ahmedabad News

After Vadodara City Traffic Police started a drive to ensure the collection of fines for e-memos issued to vehicle owners, concerns have emerged over attempts of cyber fraud.

Urging people to spot the fake e-memo payment links, said to be in circulation via SMSes, the traffic police issued a public statement to spread awareness.

Vadodara Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Jyoti Patel, on Friday, said, “It has come to our notice that the fraudsters have been sending SMSes to people with a fake e-memo link, and the URL that takes them to a webpage, resembling that of the authentic parivahan website. We want citizens to be aware that messages sent by fraudsters can be easily spotted, especially through the website links.”

“The cybercriminals are diverting the payments to a fake website echallan.parivahan.in while the genuine payment of the traffic e-challan has to be made at echallan.parivahan.gov.in. It is easy to see that dubious websites do not have the extension ‘gov.in’,” she added.

Patel added that citizens, who have been issued e-memos can physically pay the fines at the police Bhavan, CCTV centre, as well as the traffic police offices in the West and East Zone for convenience, and avoid the possibility of fraud.
